Official release is today, but a LOT of people were already playing since three days ago, even on Steam it was only behind Cyberpunk for a single-player game in number of concurrent players, which means a LOT of people bought the deluxe edition - starting today, add the normal copies. This game will sell an insane amount of copies for sure. A lot of people didn't even know this game was coming out, but people started to make a lot of noise on the socials, and it ended up resulting what people apparently call "the Streisand effect" and it was basically free promotion of the game.
